So today I started working on acid staining a concrete floor, a bit messy and hard on the back from bending over , but I love the look. I am working on a private home in MD just outside Washingon, DC, and as I finished I started to think that if you are going to try this yourself I wanted to share a point that I think are very important.
Make sure that the owners understand that keeping the floor clean prior to staining is extremly important, I applied the stain to the new concrete and discovered that the painter on the job had a lot of paint drips and splatter marks from the painting of the trim, although the painter cleaned up his drips they sealed the concrete enough that the stain was not able to react to the concrete and now all of the paint spots are highly visable. Now I will have to work with other materials to mask the problem areas and as I work through the affected areas I will post more information.
But, remember, keep you raw concrete clean, even soda or coffee spill sill show.
